Magic Bus
Magic Bus is a mentoring organisation working with children and young people living in marginalised communities in India, Nepal, Myanmar and the UK.
Its India programme has been running since 1999 reaching 400,000 children through sessions delivered by 9,000 Community Youth Leaders. These sessions use a range of activity-based learning and experiential exercises, particularly sporting activities, to deliver key messages around education, gender and livelihood. The impact of the programme is clear with 82% of adolescent Magic Bus girls in secondary school compared to a national average of 49%.
In line with its global vision, Magic Bus is now taking its programme to new geographies – Nepal and Myanmar – and to some of the most deprived communities here in the UK. Magic Bus is currently running two pilot programmes in the London Borough of Lambeth, where c. 27% of children are living in poverty. The programmes, which will continue to grow in the next school year, are working with 450 children aged 7–11 in four primary schools and with a group of vulnerable teenage girls.
Magic Bus is delighted to have been selected as the Charity Partner of the UK Private Business Awards 2016 and would like to extend its thanks to Ruby Parmar at PwC and Ford Sinclair for their support and to congratulate all the nominees and award winners.
